Women's Lacrosse Handles Chestnut Hill,
18-7
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (3/25/08) - Junior attack
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) recorded nine
points to lead the Kean University women's lacrosse team to an 18-7
victory over host Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday afternoon.
Kean (6-2) defeats the Griffins for the second time in 10 days,
after also posting a 20-11 victory on March 15 in Union, N.J.
Cirino netted seven goals and added two assists, while junior
Katie Donovan (Conshohocken, Pa.) led Chestnut Hill (1-6)
with three goals.
The Cougars scored five straight goals, including four by
Cirino, midway through the first half to build a 6-1 lead en-route
to taking a 7-4 lead at halftime.
Leading 9-5 early in the second half, Kean again scored five
unanswered goals to extend its lead to 14-5 with less than five
minutes remaining. Kean freshman Cristin Cailiff
(Cranford, N.J.) netted the final two goals of the game to
put the final margin at 18-7 for Kean's sixth victory of the
season.
Freshman Rosalia Romeo (Ridgewood, N.J.) added
four goals and two assists, while classmate Amanda South (Fairless
Hills, Pa.) added three goals and one assist.
In goal, rookie Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown,
Pa.) (pictured right) stopped 21 shots, as Kean held a
52-31 advantage in shots.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, March 29, when they
travel to Kutztown University in non-conference action at 1 p.m.
