Eagles Rally Past Kean, 9-4
Patchogue, N.Y. (4/22/08) - St. Joseph's
College (L.I.) scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to
defeat visiting Kean University, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 27-9 overall while the Eagles
improve to 22-9-1 with the win.
Kean rallied from a one run deficit with three runs in their half
of the seventh. Senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst,
N.Y.) got things started with a two RBI single, driving
home Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) (pictured
right) and sophomore Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.).
After advancing to second on the throw and stealing third,
Burke crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by freshman
Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.).
St. Joseph's then exploded in the bottom of the same inning,
plating eight runs with eight hits and the aid of one Cougar
error.
Kean tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth as Burke
tripled home sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville,
N.J.), who reached on a single.
Sophomore Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.)
was the hard-luck loser after tossing four and two thirds inning of
relief. He allowed three runs, all unearned, and four
hits. He also fanned three and walked no one.
Offensively Burke was 3-for-4 with three RBI while senior
Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) was 2-for-4.
Kean returns to action on Friday, April 25th when
they take on Rutgers-Newark at Jim Hynes Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
