Eagles Rally Past Kean, 9-4

Patchogue, N.Y. (4/22/08) - St. Joseph's College (L.I.) scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat visiting Kean University, 9-4, Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Cougars fall to 27-9 overall while the Eagles improve to 22-9-1 with the win.

Kean rallied from a one run deficit with three runs in their half of the seventh.  Senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) got things started with a two RBI single, driving home Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) (pictured right) and sophomore Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.).  After advancing to second on the throw and stealing third, Burke crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by freshman Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.)

St. Joseph's then exploded in the bottom of the same inning, plating eight runs with eight hits and the aid of one Cougar error.

Kean tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth as Burke tripled home sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.), who reached on a single.

Sophomore Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.) was the hard-luck loser after tossing four and two thirds inning of relief.  He allowed three runs, all unearned, and four hits.  He also fanned three and walked no one.

Offensively Burke was 3-for-4 with three RBI while senior Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) was 2-for-4.

Kean returns to action on Friday, April 25th when they take on Rutgers-Newark at Jim Hynes Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
