Women's Lax Sets Record with 11th Victory

Cougars Break Single-Season Wins Record with 11th Victory

UNION, N.J. (4/23/08) - Junior attack Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) netted five goals and added three assists to lead the Kean University women's lacrosse team to a 21-3 victory over Ramapo College in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars (11-4, 3-1 Skyline) scored 12 straight goals spanning the first and second halves, as they broke the program record for wins in a season with their 11th victory, breaking the mark of 10 wins set in 2005 (10-5).

For the Roadrunners (1-9, 1-3 Skyline), freshman goalkeeper Diana Silva (Howell, N.J.) made 10 saves.

After opening the game with six straight goals, the Cougars closed the half scoring nine unanswered goals to extend the lead to 16-2 at halftime.  Freshman Rosalia Romeo (Ridgewood, N.J.) and senior Alli Green (West Deptford, N.J.) each had four goals in the opening 30 minutes, while freshman attack Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) added three goals and three assists.

The Cougars netted the first three goals of the second half en-route to the 18-goal victory.

Romeo (pictured right) finished with five goals one assist, breaking the single-season points record of 76 points (Melissa Nunez, 2005)with 80 points this season.  Cirino now has 77 points this season to rank second in single-season history.

Green totaled four goals, one assist, three groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Cristin Califf (Cranford, N.J.) picked up a game-high six draw controls and rookie Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) caused three turnovers. 

For the Roadrunners, senior attack Eveline Rutledge (Plainsboro, N.J.) had two goals three groundballs to lead Ramapo.

Kean returns to action on Thursday, April 24, when they host Cedar Crest College in the final regular season home game at 7 p.m.
