Triano Lifts Kean Past Vassar,

Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) recorded a hat trick
to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 5-2 victory over
host Vassar College in non-conference action on Wednesday
afternoon.
The Cougars scored three times in a two-minute span early in the
opening half, as Triano (pictured right) opened the scoring 8:25
into the contest, tallying the unassisted goal after collecting the
ball following a saved shot.
Senior Katie McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.) followed
just 46 seconds later, scoring off a pass from sophomore
Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) on the penalty
corner. Triano added her second goal at 10:14, taking a pass
from sophomore Kelly Mataya (West Paterson, N.J.)
for the 3-0 lead.
Vassar got on the board in the 14th minute to trim
the deficit to 3-1 before the Cougars added two more first-half
goals by junior Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford,
N.J.) and Triano for the 5-1 edge at the break.
Kean held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 13-9 edge in penalty
corners. In goal, Kean sophomore Ashlie Berghold
(Boyertown, Pa.) made three saves in the opening half.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 13, when
they host SUNY New Paltz in non-conference at 1 p.m.
