Field Hockey Grabs NJAC Win Over

Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) recorded a
hat-trick as Kean University defeated visiting Richard Stockton
College, 4-1, Tuesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium in the New
Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener for both.
Kean, who outshot the Ospreys, 33-6, improves to 6-2 overall and
1-0 in NJAC play while Richard Stockton falls to 0-6 and 0-1 in
conference action.
KU got on the board in the 29th minute for the only
goal of the first half as Gibbs scored unassisted, despite
outshooting Stockton, 18-1, in the first 35 minutes.
Stockton surged out of the break and tied things up at 45:11 on
a goal from junior Christy Barbetto (Hammonton,
N.J.). The Cougars would go-ahead five minutes later
on Gibbs' second goal of the evening of an assist from senior Katie
McGee. The two would reconnect at 57:04 for Kean's third goal
of the night. Sophomore Kelly Mataya (West Paterson,
N.J.) (pictured right) closed out the scoring off an
assist from Gibbs at 63:15.
Keeper Debi O'Kane (Cologne, N.J.) recorded 10
saves for the Ospreys while sophomore Ashlie Berghold
(Boyertown, Pa.) tallied three.
KU returns to action on Friday, September 26th when
they travel to Elmira College for a 4 p.m. start. Richard
Stockton will host Albright College on Saturday, September
27th at noon.
