Late Goal Sends NJCU Past Kean, 2-1

Union, N.J. (9/24/08) - Junior John Bernal (Totowa, N.J.) netted the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in regulation to send New Jersey City University past host Kean University, 2-1, Wednesday evening in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.

NJCU, who outshot the Cougars, 33-12, improves to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in NJAC play while the loss drops KU to 4-5-1 and 0-2 in the NJAC.

After a tight, scoreless first half, KU got on the board in the 49th minute as senior Mark Wallis (New Gretna, N.J.) took a feed from senior Tom Azydzik (Clark, N.J.) (pictured right) near the goal for the 1-0 advantage.  The Gothic Knights responded at 69:02 as senior Cristhian Acuna (East Newark, N.J.) headed the ball from Miguel Fontan (Lyndhurst, N.J.) to knot the match at one.  With overtime looming, NJCU scored the go-ahead goal at 87:42 as Bernal took a pass from senior Jonathan Bilbao (Carteret, N.J.).
