Men's Soccer Falls to Rutgers-Camden in Double Overtime

CAMDEN, N.J. (9/27/08) - Sophomore goalkeeper Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.) made nine saves, however the 10th-ranked Rutgers-Camden men's soccer team scored the game-winner in double overtime to defeat Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening.

The Scarlet Raptors (8-1-1, 1-1-1 NJAC) held a 26-7 edge in shots and an overwhelming 20-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Cougars (4-6-1, 0-3 NJAC).

With just 2:30 remaining in the second and final overtime session, sophomore Shane McGrory (Stratford, N.J.) netted the game-winner from the top left side of the box.

Rutgers-Camden scored the first goal of the game when senior Andrew Dorsey (Mount Lau rel, N.J.) found the back of the net off the assists from sophomore Steve Shincarick (Mays Landing, N.J.) and Stan Reahm (Deptford, N.J.) in the seventh minute.

The Cougars tied the game up less than seven minutes later when rookie Andres Berriel (Las Piedras, Uruguay) (pictured right) scored the unassisted goal, as he fell to the turf.

For the next 94 minutes, the two teams battled in scoreless action before McGrory scored his third goal of the year for the game-winner.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Cougars, as they face a pair of nationally ranked opponents in NJAC action at home this week.  The Cougars square off against #5 Montclair State University on Wednesday, October 1, at Kean Alumni Stadium at 7 p.m., before hosting 19th-ranked William Paterson University on Saturday, October 4, at 1 p.m.
