Men's Soccer Falls to
Rutgers-Camden in Double Overtime
CAMDEN, N.J. (9/27/08) -
Sophomore goalkeeper Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield,
N.J.) made nine saves, however the 10th-ranked
Rutgers-Camden men's soccer team scored the game-winner in double
overtime to defeat Kean University in New Jersey Athletic
Conference action on Saturday evening.
The Scarlet Raptors (8-1-1, 1-1-1 NJAC) held a 26-7 edge in
shots and an overwhelming 20-0 advantage in corner kicks over the
Cougars (4-6-1, 0-3 NJAC).
With just 2:30 remaining in the second and final overtime
session, sophomore Shane McGrory (Stratford, N.J.) netted
the game-winner from the top left side of the box.
Rutgers-Camden scored the first goal of the game when senior
Andrew Dorsey (Mount Lau
rel, N.J.) found the back of the net off the assists from
sophomore Steve Shincarick (Mays Landing, N.J.) and
Stan Reahm (Deptford, N.J.) in the seventh minute.
The Cougars tied the game up less than seven minutes later when
rookie Andres Berriel (Las Piedras, Uruguay)
(pictured right) scored the unassisted goal, as he fell to the
turf.
For the next 94 minutes, the two teams battled in scoreless
action before McGrory scored his third goal of the year for the
game-winner.
The schedule does not get any easier for the Cougars, as they
face a pair of nationally ranked opponents in NJAC action at home
this week. The Cougars square off against #5 Montclair State
University on Wednesday, October 1, at Kean Alumni Stadium at 7
p.m., before hosting 19th-ranked William Paterson
University on Saturday, October 4, at 1 p.m.
