Women's Soccer Defeats
Rutgers-Camden, 1-0
UNION, N.J. (9/27/08) - Freshman forward
Ashley DiRocco (Cranford, N.J.) converted a
penalty kick in the second half to lead the Kean University women's
soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey
Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening.
For the Cougars (6-2, 2-1 NJAC), sophomore Leandra Russo
(Galloway, N.J.)
stopped seven shots, while senior Jayme Gatti (Delran,
N.J.) made 10 saves for Rutgers-Camden (6-5, 0-3 NJAC).
In the 65th minute, DiRocco scored the lone goal in
the game following a hand ball inside the box.
Earlier in the game, Russo (pictured right) stopped a penalty
kick by the Scarlet Raptors in the 27th minute to keep
the game scoreless.
In a physical contest with a combined 32 fouls, including 22 by
Rutgers-Camden, the Cougars held a 20-8 edge in shots, while
Scarlet Raptors had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they travel
to Montclair State University in NJAC action. Game time is
set for 7 p.m.
