Field Hockey Falls to Stevens Tech,
5-3
UNION, N.J. (9/6/08) - Stevens
Institute of Technology defeated host Kean University, 5-3, in
non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Kara Borzillo (Mount Laurel, N.J.) had two goals
and an assist for the Ducks (4-0), while junior Brittany
Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) led the Cougars (1-2) with two
goals.
Stevens took a 3-0 lead at halftime, as Borzillo scored twice
and the Ducks took advantage of two penalty strokes for the early
lead.
In the second half, Kean cut the deficit to 3-1 on a goal by
Gibbs (pictured right) following a penalty corner. However,
the Ducks answered with back-to-back goals to extend the lead to
5-1 before the Cougars scored the final two goals of the game.
For the Cougars, junior Julie Bachovchin (Piscataway,
N.J.) added a goal and an assist, while senior
Katie McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.) had an assist and
a pair of defensive saves.
Stevens senior Hillary Paul (Concord, N.H.) added a
pair of goals and sophomore Allison Basile (River Edge,
N.J.) added a goal in the victory.
The Ducks held a 17-12 edge in shots, while each team took nine
penalty corners.
Kean returns to action on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel
to Vassar College for a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
