Cougars Shutout Host St.
Joseph's-L.I., 5-0
Coram, N.Y. (9/7/08) - Five different Cougars
combined for goals as Kean University for the second straight day
held their opponent scoreless and defeated St. Joseph's
College-Long Island, 5-0, Sunday afternoon.
Improving to 3-1-1, KU won the tournament held in Long Island as
Sebastian Baison (Hillside, N.J.), Rob
Sopko (Lake Como, N.J.), Mark Wallis (New Grenta,
N.J.) and Brian Haag (Mt. Laurel, N.J.)
all earned All-Tournament honors while senior Edgar Chaves
(Bridgewater, N.J) and freshman Andres Berriel
(Las Piedras, Uruguay) earned Defensive and Offensive MVP
honors respectively.
In today's action Kean controlled all the offensive taking a 2-0
lead into halftime after goals by Baison and Wallis. The
Cougars continued with two goals in the first 15 minutes of action
in the second half, including a penalty kick goal by Chaves
(pictured left).
Sophomore goalkeeper Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield,
N.J.) recorded six saves in 79 minutes of action for his
third straight shutout.
The Cougars home opener is this Wednesday, September
10th at 7:30 p.m. as KU takes on Medgar Evers College.
