UNION, N.J. (10/12/09) - Rookie Abner Denis (Curitiba, Brazil) scored once in each half to lift the Kean University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action on Monday evening.

Sophomore Brian Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) made 10 saves in the shutout victory for the Cougars (6-5-3), as Eastern Connecticut (8-4-1) held a 22-12 advantage in shots.

Denis got the Cougars on the board midway through the opening half, taking a pass from freshman Guilherme Argollo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) for the 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.

Early in the second half, Denis tacked on the insurance goal when freshman Michael Custidiano (Hawthorne, N.J.) (pictured right) gave him a pass on the left side for the 2-0 advantage just 8:39 into the half.

The Warriors also had a 12-0 edge in corner kicks, while starting goalkeeper Carl Appel (West Windsor, N.J.) made two saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, October 14, when they host Rowan University at 7:30 p.m.
