Haines, Rookies Lift Men's Soccer
Past Eastern Connecticut State, 2-0
UNION, N.J. (10/12/09) - Rookie Abner
Denis (Curitiba, Brazil) scored once in each half to lift
the Kean University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over
visiting Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference
action on Monday evening.
Sophomore Brian Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J.)
made 10 saves in the shutout victory for the Cougars (6-5-3), as
Eastern Connecticut (8-4-1) held a 22-12 advantage in shots.
Denis got the Cougars on the board midway through the opening
half, taking a pass from freshman Guilherme Argollo (Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil) for the 1-0 lead in the 27th
minute.
Early in the second half, Denis tacked on the insurance goal
when freshman Michael Custidiano (Hawthorne, N.J.)
(pictured right) gave him a pass on the left side for the 2-0
advantage just 8:39 into the half.
The Warriors also had a 12-0 edge in corner kicks, while
starting goalkeeper Carl Appel (West Windsor, N.J.) made
two saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on
Wednesday, October 14, when they host Rowan University at 7:30 p.m.
