Men's Soccer Falls to Rowan,
2-1
UNION, N.J. (10/14/09) - Rowan University
senior forward Mike Pascale (Toms River, N.J.) scored
twice to lead the Profs to a 2-1 victory over host Kean University
in New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday
evening.
Pascale broke a 1-1 tie with the game-winner with just under 26
minutes remaining to lead the Profs (9-4-2, 3-1-2 NJAC).
For the Cougars 6-6-3, 1-4-1 NJAC), rookie Igor
Maciel-Martins (Curitiba, Brazil) scored his first
collegiate goal.
After a scoreless opening half, Pascale opened the scoring with
the unassisted goal just 6:05 into the second half.
The Cougars tied the game just five minutes later when
Maciel-Martins (pictured right) collected the loose ball following
a Kean free kick and fired the open shot from about 35-yards out.
Pascale would then net the game-winner in the 65th
minute, when junior John Loiodice (Brick, N.J.) crossed
the ball from the right side that Pascale would tip in for the 2-1
win.
Rowan goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (Lakewood, N.J.) made
six saves in the victory, while sophomore Brian Haines
(Ridgefield Park, N.J.) stopped four shots for Kean.
The Cougars held a 16-0 edge in shots, while Rowan had a 5-3
advantage in corner kicks.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, October 17, when the Cougars
