Second Half Surge Sends #10 Rowan
Over Kean, 3-2
Glassboro, N.J. (10/14/09) -Rowan University
scored the game-winner with 7:34 remaining to give the Profs a 3-2
victory over Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference
(NJAC) action on Wednesday.
The Profs, ranked 10th in this week's National Soccer Coaches
Association of America National Rankings, improve to 12-1-1 overall
and 6-0 in the conference. The Cougars have a 5-4-4 record with a
2-2-2 NJAC mark.
Back Christine Foy (Hamilton, N.J.) sent a pass down
the field over the defense. Veronica Rhea (Pennsauken,
N.J.) raced by the defenders and sent the ball into the back
of the net for the game-winner.
Rhea broke a 1-1 tie at 53:49 as she scored from inside the box
after forward Jess Babice (Groveville, N.J.) centered her
the ball. Kean forward Randi Vizoco (Erial,
N.J.) knocked in a cross from forward Danielle
Esposito (Holmdel, N.J.) to tie the game (2-2) at the 67
minute mark.
In the first half, Kean went ahead, 1-0 at 8:20 after a goal by
midfielder Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.).
Esposito (pictured right) found Godwin with a pass and she kicked
it into the lower right corner of the net. Rhea's first goal
at 11:07 tied the score (1-1). Midfielder Evynn Wright
(Marlton, N.J.) sent the ball to Christie Fink (Hamilton
Square, N.J.). Fink immediately passed it to Rhea for
the goal.
Kean held a slight 14-13 edge in shots, while the Profs had a
3-2 advantage in corner opportunities.
Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (Glen Rock, N.J.) made six
saves for the Profs, while junior Leandra Russo (Galloway,
N.J.) stopped two shots for KU.
