Second Half Goals Power Women's
Soccer Past Rutgers-Newark
NEWARK, N.J.
(10/17/09) - The Kean University women's soccer
team netted three second-half goals to pull away from host
Rutgers-Newark, 4-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on
Saturday evening.
The Cougars (6-4-4, 3-2-2 NJAC) held a 25-5 edge in shots and a
slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks over the Scarlet Raiders
(6-9-1, 0-6-0 NJAC).
Kean scored three times in a 14 minute span late in the second
half, as sophomore Danielle Esposito (Holmdel,
N.J.) scored sandwiched goals around a loose ball putaway
by junior forward Randi VIzoco (Erial, N.J.), as
the Cougars broke open the contest.
Early in the game, senior midfielder Jenna Godwin
(Kingwood, N.J.) scored the game-winner on a 25-yard blast
off a back pass from the right of the box by junior forward
Samantha Ciccone (Point Pleasant Beach,
N.J.) in the 13th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Renteria (North Bergen, N.J.)
made six saves for the Scarlet Raiders.
For Kean, junior Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.)
stopped one shot in each half to earn the shutout.
Kean returns to action on Tuesday, October 20, when they travel
to Western Connecticut State University for a non-conference game
at 7 p.m.
