Men's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Tie with Eastern

UNION, N.J. (10/21/09) - The Kean University men's soccer team battled in its seventh double overtime game of the season, tying host Eastern University, 2-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

Rookie Abner Denis (Curitiba, Brazil) (pictured right) erased a 1-0 deficit for the Cougars (6-7-4), as he netted the unassisted goal in the 28th minute to tie the game at the break.

In the second half, the Cougars would take a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal by junior Adam Bajak (Clifton, N.J.) in the 60th minute.  However, Eastern (6-8-1) tied the game when sophomore forward Braden Gross (Harrisburg, Pa.) scored off the assist from junior Phil Mantua (Laurel, Md.).

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead just minutes into the game, as rookie Dan Shields (Middletown, Pa.) scored off a rebound.

Kean goalkeeper Brian Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) made three saves for the Cougars, who held a 17-13 advantage in shots.  Eastern led 10-5 in corner kicks.

The Cougars travel to Richard Stockton College on Saturday, October 24, to face the host Ospreys in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at 1 p.m.
