Men's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Tie
with Eastern
UNION, N.J. (10/21/09) - The Kean University
men's soccer team battled in its seventh double overtime game of
the season, tying host Eastern University, 2-2, in non-conference
action on Wednesday afternoon.
Rookie Abner Denis (Curitiba, Brazil) (pictured
right) erased a 1-0 deficit for the Cougars (6-7-4), as he netted
the unassisted goal in the 28th minute to tie the game
at the break.
In the second half, the Cougars would take a 2-1 lead on an
unassisted goal by junior Adam Bajak (Clifton,
N.J.) in the 60th minute. However,
Eastern (6-8-1) tied the game when sophomore forward Braden
Gross (Harrisburg, Pa.) scored off the assist from junior
Phil Mantua (Laurel, Md.).
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead just minutes into the game, as
rookie Dan Shields (Middletown, Pa.) scored off a rebound.
Kean goalkeeper Brian Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) made three
saves for the Cougars, who held a 17-13 advantage in shots.
Eastern led 10-5 in corner kicks.
The Cougars travel to Richard Stockton College on Saturday,
October 24, to face the host Ospreys in New Jersey Athletic
Conference action at 1 p.m.
