Women's Soccer Battles WPU to 1-1
Tie
UNION, N.J. (10/3/09) - Junior Lara
Kaminski (Rahway, N.J.) scored early in the second half to
tie the game as Kean University battled William Paterson University
to a 1-1 double overtime tie in New Jersey Athletic Conference
women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (4-3-4, 2-1-2 NJAC) held a slight 11-10 edge in
shots, while the Pioneers (4-4-3, 2-1-2 NJAC) had a 5-4 advantage
in corner kicks. It was Kean's fifth double overtime game of
the season and second straight NJAC game that ended in a tie.
William Paterson took a 1-0 lead in the first half when
sophomore forward Megan Droelle
(Hampton, N.J.) fired a shot from the right side of the box
that got by a diving Leandra Russo (Absegami,
N.J.) and into the far side off the assist from senior
midfielder Sam Giancola (Hazlet, N.J.) in the
24th minute.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Pioneers until early
in the second half, as Kaminski (pictured right) recorded the
unassisted goal just 5:48 into the half to tie the game.
Russo stopped four shots for the Cougars, while Pioneer
goalkeeper Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J.) made two
saves.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday, October 7, when the Cougars
host Wilkes University in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m.
