Women's Soccer Blanks Wilkes,
3-0
UNION, N.J. (10/7/09) - The Kean University
women's soccer team scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart
late in the opening half en-route to defeating Wilkes University,
3-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Danielle Esposito (Holmdel, N.J.)
netted the game-winner for the Cougars (5-3-4), who have a
five-game unbeaten streak. Wilkes goalkeeper Brooke
Keister (Penns Creek, Pa.) made seven saves for the visiting
Lady Colonels (4-5-2).
With less than eight minutes remaining, Esposito (pictured
right) gave the Cougars the 1-0 lead after scoring off the assist
from senior Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.).
Just 41 seconds later, rookie Carly Seidel (Winslow Twp.,
N.J.) took a pass from freshman Kristen Hager
(Spotswood, N.J.) for the 2-0 advantage heading into the
break.
In the second half, junior Samantha Ciccone (Point
Pleasant Beach, N.J.) netted the insurance goal with just
7:20 remaining in the game.
The Cougars held a 19-2 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in
corner kicks.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday, October 14, when the
Cougars travel to Glassboro, N.J., for a New Jersey Athletic
Conference match-up against host Rowan University.
