Red Hawks Surge Past Kean,
66-44

The Montclair State University men's basketball team shot 51
percent and forced 25 turnovers as they defeated Kean, 66-44,
Saturday afternoon at the Panzer Athletic Center.
With the loss the Cougars fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the New
Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), while the win improves MSU to
5-2 and 2-0 in conference play.
Both teams sea-sawed in the early part of the matchup but after
Kean took a 10-9 lead on two free-throws from senior Vinnie
Darpino (Colonia, N.J.) with 12:18 to go, the Red Hawks
then sprinted on a 16-4 run over the course of the next five
minutes to take a 26-13 lead.
At the break with a 36-18 lead junior Tom Bonard (Westfield,
N.J.) led all players with 10 points while Darpino led Kean
with six. The Red Hawks were benefited with five treys in the
first 20 minutes and shot just under 60 percent for the half.
The Cougars were plagued with 14 turnovers.
Head coach Rob Kurzinsky used the final 19 minutes to use his
bench as all suited players saw a great deal of playing time.
In the end senior Rodlin Pierre (Orange, N.J.)
(pictured right) led the Cougars with 10 points and six rebounds
while senior Dean Hughes (Pemberton, N.J.) added
seven points and five rebounds.
For MSU senior Daniel McRae (Orange, N.J.) led all
players with 16 points while guard Ali Mix (East Orange,
N.J.) added 13 points and five assists in 35 minutes of
action.
Kean heads down to southern New Jersey to face Rowan University
on Wednesday, December 9th while MSU will host Ramapo.
