Profs Edge Cougars, 63-58

Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) posted his second
double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as Rowan
University defeated visiting Kean, 63-58, Wednesday evening.
Jones (pictured right) finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds off
the bench as the Cougars fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the New
Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The win improves the Profs
to 5-2 and 2-0 in conference action.
After trading leads early in the first half, Kean used a 7-1 run
to pull ahead 25-19 with 5:26 remaining. Senior
Vinnie Darpino (Colonia, N.J.) started the run
with a trey and with senior Rodlin Pierre (Orange,
N.J.) and Jones each added a layup. The Cougars
would lead by as many as 10 on two separate occasions, before
heading into the half with a 33-25 advantage. Darpino led KU
with 11 first half points.
The Profs slowly chipped away in the second half and tied the
score at 40 all with 12:48 to go on a bucket by Tyson Hartnett
(Medford, N.J.). RU took the lead for good on a
three-pointer by Sean Hughes (Point Pleasant, N.J.) with
11:12 remaining.
Darpino finished with a team-high 16 points while senior
Brian Lytle (Union, N.J.) added seven points and
five rebounds.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, December 21st
when they travel to Albright College.
