Profs Edge Cougars, 63-58

Glassboro, N.J. (12/9/09) - Junior Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) posted his second double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as Rowan University defeated visiting Kean, 63-58, Wednesday evening.

Jones (pictured right) finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench as the Cougars fell to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).  The win improves the Profs to 5-2 and 2-0 in conference action.

After trading leads early in the first half, Kean used a 7-1 run to pull ahead 25-19 with 5:26 remaining.  Senior Vinnie Darpino (Colonia, N.J.) started the run with a trey and with senior Rodlin Pierre (Orange, N.J.) and Jones each added a layup.  The Cougars would lead by as many as 10 on two separate occasions, before heading into the half with a 33-25 advantage.  Darpino led KU with 11 first half points.

The Profs slowly chipped away in the second half and tied the score at 40 all with 12:48 to go on a bucket by Tyson Hartnett (Medford, N.J.).  RU took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Sean Hughes (Point Pleasant, N.J.) with 11:12 remaining.

Darpino finished with a team-high 16 points while senior Brian Lytle (Union, N.J.) added seven points and five rebounds.

The Cougars return to action on Monday, December 21st when they travel to Albright College.
