#4 TCNJ Blanks Kean, 17-0
UNION, N.J. -
(3/16/09) - The fourth ranked Lions of The College of New
Jersey used a balanced scoring attack to blank the Cougars of Kean
University, 17-0 in women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Lions improve to 3-0 and 2-0 in the NJAC, while
the Cougars fell to 0-3 and 0-1 in NJAC play.
TCNJ received three goals apiece from Rachel Gordon
(Cherry Hill, N.J.), Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, N.J.), Alison
Jager (Hampton, N.J.) and Leigh Mitchell (Mt.
Laurel, N.J.).
The lone bright spot for the Cougars was freshman goalie
Gina Petrizzo (Hopatcong, N.J.) who kept Kean in
the game early on, stopping five of the Lions first seven shots,
including four free position shots.
TCNJ scored twice in the first three minutes to open up the
early lead. Then Petrizzo (pictured right) made five point blank
stops and the Cougars gained possession and put the Lions on the
defensive. After a lengthy offensive possession the Cougars were
unable to generate any scoring attack and Lions eventually took
control of the game. TCNJ's third goal came at 17:41 mark by
Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and then TCNJ
put the game out of reach with five more goals in the next two
minutes.
TCNJ held a 14-0 lead and the break and overall in the game the
Lions outshot the Cougars 26-0.
