Women's Lax Nets First Victory of
Season
UNION, N.J. (3/28/09) - Sophomore
Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) and senior
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) combined for
six goals and seven assists to lead the Kean
University women's lacrosse team a 17-4 victory over University of
Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
South (pictured right) had three goals and five assists as the
Cougars (1-6) won their first game of the year. For the Lady
Crusaders (0-8), sophomore Christine McFarland (Floral Park ,
N.Y.) had a team-high two goals.
The Cougars scored the first 11 goals of the game to take a 11-0
lead at the break, as sophomore Kelly Mataya (West
Paterson, N.J.) gad three of the team's first four goals
and South had four assists and two goals in the opening half.
Dallas opened the second half scoring, as McFarland netted the
unassisted goal with just over 19 minutes remaining, before the
Cougars scored six of the next seven goals en-route to the 13-goal
victory.
Junior Chelsea Davis (Livingston, N.J.) added
one goal, one assist, five draw controls and two caused turnovers,
while Mataya (pictured left) and junior Julie Bachovchin
(Piscataway, N.J.) each finished with three goals.
For the Lady Crusaders, goalkeeper Elizabeth Leland (St.
Charles, Mo.) made 11 saves, while Cougar goalkeepers
Gina Petrizzo (Hopatcong, N.J.) and
Sabrina Vargas (Elizabeth, N.J.) combined for four
saves.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, March 31, when they
travel to Lancaster Bible College for a 4 p.m. contest.
