Baseball Sweeps Rowan, 6-3 (12) and
10-6

Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) was a combined 5-for-11 with five
RBI, including a two-run homerun in extras in game one as #5/9 Kean
University swept Rowan University, 6-3 (10) and 10-6 (7) Saturday
afternoon at Profs Field.
With today's wins Kean improves to 17-5 overall and 3-1 in the
NJAC while Rowan drops to 11-5-1 and 1-2 in conference action.
Game
One
The Cougars once again played into extra innings for the second
straight afternoon. This time the outcome was different as KU
plated three runs in the top of the 12th to give Kean
the win. Tied at three all, junior Dave Zavistoski
(Edison, N.J.) recorded what would be the winning run as
he crossed the plate on an error after reaching on a leadoff
single. Moceri added a little cushion with a two-run line
drive over the leftfield wall for the three run advantage.
Senior reliever Drew Campbell (Hillsborough,
N.J.) then shutdown the Profs in order in the bottom of
the 12th to secure his second win of the season.
Campbell (2-0) tossed three innings allowing just one hit and no
runs.
Offensively Moceri (pictured right) was 4-for-6 with three RBI
and two runs scored including two doubles and a homerun.
Moceri also had a key double play in the bottom of the
11th when he caught a liner and doubled off the runner
at second to end the threat and force the game into the
12th.
Game
Two
Kean carried their momentum from game one into game two and
scored early, plating eight runs in the first four innings of
action.
Catcher Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.)
recorded a three-run shot, his first of the season, down the
leftfield line in the top of the third in part of the action.
After Rowan made things interesting, closing in by two (8-6)
after a three run shot of their own in the bottom of the fifth,
freshman D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.)
collected the first homerun of his collegiate career, a two run
blast, to give KU some breathing room with the score at 10-6.
The game was called after seven innings of action due to
darkness.
Reliever Pedro Rivera (Elizabeth, N.J.) picked
up the win after tossing two and a third innings of relief.
Rivera (2-0) allowed one hit while fanning four and walking one.
Offensively Breckenridge (pictured left) was 2-for-4 with three
runs scored while sophomore Mike Mattonelli (Hamilton,
N.J.) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Cougars head back into NJAC play on Thursday, April
2nd when they travel to take on William Paterson at 3:30
p.m.
