Men's Lacrosse Victorious Over
Valiants, 10-3
Union, N.J. (3/5/09) - Kean University scored three goals
in the first period and never looked back en route to a 10-3 win
over Manhattanville College on Thursday afternoon at Kean Alumni
Stadium.
Senior Eric Gillar (Milltown, N.J.) got things
going for Kean (1-1) with an unassisted goal with 14:07 remaining
in the first period. Juniors Scott Leathem (Fair
Lawn, N.J.) and Anthony Bertucci (Edison,
N.J.) (pictured right) also added unassisted goals in the
first period for a quick 3-0 KU lead. Bertucci added his
second of the afternoon with 7:33 to go in the second to give the
Cougars a 4-0 lead at the break.
Kean put the game away in the third period scoring another four
goals, including goals by defenseman Josh Jordan (Califon,
N.J.) and midfielder Nick Esposito (Caldwell,
N.J.).
Manhattanville (1-1) broke up the shutout in the fourth period with
three goals scored by three different Valiants.
On the afternoon, Leathem finished with two goals and an assist
while senior Josh Morales (Clifton, N.J.)
(pictured left) added two goals and an assist as well.
Bertucci added six groundballs and a caused turnover in addition to
his two goals.
In goal, junior John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.)
tallied eight saves while sophomore Greg Egan (Gibbsboro,
N.J.) had one in the win.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, March 7th when
they take on Mount Ida College at 1:30 p.m.
