Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Mt. Ida,
12-7
Union, N.J. (3/7/09) - Senior Eric Gillar
(Milltown, N.J.) recorded six points with two goals and
four assists as Kean University defeated Mount Ida College, 12-7,
Saturday afternoon at Kean Alumni Stadium.
With the win Kean improves to 2-1 overall while the loss is the
first for Mount Ida who falls to 1-1.
Things were close throughout the first two periods but Kean took
the lead for good with their second goal of the match with 3:19 to
go in the first period off a goal by junior Scott Leathem
(Fair Lawn, N.J.).
KU took control of the third period, scoring five uncontested
goals, and put the game out of reach.
Offensively, the Cougars had a good day, recording 11 assists on 12
goals. Leathem (pictured right) finished the afternoon with
four points (one goal and three assists) while junior
Jazimar Bailey (Hoboken, N.J.) (pictured left)
added two goals and an assist of his own. For the second
straight match, junior defenseman Josh Jordan (Califon,
N.J.) tallied a goal while teammate J.R. Glita
(Wayne, N.J.) registered his first goal of the season.
In goal, junior John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.)
recorded 10 saves.
For the Mustangs, senior Brett Conley (Fairfield,
Conn.) tallied a team-high three points with two goals and an
assist. Keepers Matt Vernik (Bethany, Conn.) and
Justin Famiglietti (Peabody, Mass.) combined for 13 saves
in the loss.
Kean returns to action on Monday, March 9th in a
rescheduled match against Stevens Institute of Technology beginning
at 7 p.m.
