Men's Lax Falls to #20 Stevens,
14-9
HOBOKEN, N.J. (3/9/09) - Junior C.J.
Gannon (Morris Plains, N.J.) scored a game-high five
goals, however the Kean University men's lacrosse team fell to
20th ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 14-9, in
non-conference action on Monday evening.
For Stevens (2-2), senior Eric Smith (Oswego, N.Y.) and
sophomore Chris Laurita (Timber Ponds, N.J.) each scored
four goals. Junior goalkeeper John Gesumaria
(Cranford, N.J.) (pictured right) made 11 saves for the
Cougars (2-2).
The Ducks led 3-2 after the first quarter, before scoring the
first four goals of the second quarter en-route to taking a 9-3
lead at halftime.
Laurita netted three goals in the opening half for Stevens,
while Gannon scored two of Kean's three goals.
The Cougars scored three of the first four goals of the second
half to pull within 10-6, however Kean could pull no closer than
four goals the rest of the game.
Kean junior Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.) had
three assists in the game, while sophomore Justin Lappen
(Tolland, Conn.) finished with 10 groundballs and 11
face-off wins.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, March 11, when they
host Widener University at 6 p.m.
