#4 Kean Pushes Past Franklin & Marshall, 7-3

Union, N.J. (3/6/09) - Senior Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) drove in three as #4 Kean University improved to 5-0 by defeating Franklin & Marshall College, 7-3, Friday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Manganiello was 2-for-4 with a double in the win.  Senior Shea Moriarty (Wilton, Conn.) led the Diplomats (0-1) with a solo shot in F & M's first game of the 2009 season.

Moriarty got the Diplomats going with that solo shot in the top of the first.  The lead was short-lived, however, as junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) (pictured right) knocked in two with a single to left to give KU the lead for good.

Kean tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth on an RBI double by Manganiello and an RBI single by freshman Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.).  After the Diplomats scored in their half of the eighth with a single run, the Cougars put the game away with three in the bottom.  Manganiello provided the big hit with a single down the leftfield line to bring in two.

Junior Joe Bartlinski (South Amboy, N.J.) (pictured left) picked up the win after tossing seven and a third innings allowing two runs, one earned, and four hits.  He (2-0) also struck out four and walked three.  Senior Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) earned his third save in his third appearance.  Aich threw one and two thirds innings allowing one run and two hits.  He struck out two and walked one.

Sophomore Mike Duranti (Plandome, N.Y.) suffered the loss for Franklin & Marshall.  Duranti (0-1) allowed four runs and five hits in five innings of work.  He walked no one and fanned four.

Offensively freshman Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.  Sophomore Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.) was 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
