Men's Lax Swims Past Dolphins,
20-2
UNION, N.J. (4/15/09) - The Kean University
men's lacrosse team had 14 players net goals, as the Cougars
defeated College of Mount Saint Vincent, 20-2, in Skyline
Conference action on Wednesday evening.
Junior Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) led the
Cougars (9-5, 2-2 Skyline) with a game-high three goals and one
assist, while senior Eric Gillar (Milltown, N.J.)
dished out a game-high three assists to go along with two
goals.
Junior goalkeeper Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, N.Y.) made 10
saves in goal for the Dolphins (5-6, 0-2 Skyline).
The Cougars took a 5-0 lead after the first quarter behind a
pair of Mike Terry (Maplewood, N.J.) goals and
would extend the lead to 7-0 after back-to-back goals by junior
Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.).
Mount Saint Vincent would get on the board on an unassisted goal
by sophomore attack Mike Shea (Congers, N.Y.) with 12:52
remaining in the second quarter.
Kean netted six of the final seven goals of the second period to
take a 13-2 lead at halftime, as six different players recorded
goals in the run.
In the third period, the Cougars scored four times to extend the
lead to 17-2 before three more goals in the final period.
Terry (pictured right) added two goals and one assist, while
Leathem and senior Josh Morales (Clifton, N.J.)
each scored twice. Junior C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains,
N.J.) had a pair of assists.
Freshman midfielder Andrew Rau (Fair Lawn,
N.J.) won 11-of-13 faceoffs and picked up seven
groundballs, while defenders Nick Miceli (East Setauket,
N.Y.) and Rob Child (Avon, N.J.)
each had three caused turnovers.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, April 18, when they
host Moravian College in non-conference action at 3 p.m.
