Baseball Swims Past Staten Island, 5-1

Staten Island, N.Y. (4/7/09) - Junior Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) drove in four as #5/12 Kean University defeated The College of Staten Island, 5-1, Tuesday afternoon at the CSI Baseball Complex.

Moceri was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a sacrifice fly as Kean improved to 21-6 overall.  The loss drops CSI to 10-9 this season.

The Cougars used single runs in the first, third and fifth innings.  In the first and third, junior Mike Diaz (Westfield, N.J.) (pictured right) reached on a single and walk, respectively, and Moceri doubled him home each time.  In the fifth inning, freshman D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.) reached on a single and later scored on Moceri's sacrifice fly.  Kean plated two in the sixth inning as pinch-hitter Kyle Walker (Piscataway, N.J.) hit a bases-loaded RBI single and Moceri later added an RBI single of his own.

Staten Island native, Joe Rizzo earned the win in relief.  Rizzo (1-0) (pictured left) allowed just three hits in five innings while recording a career-high ten strikeouts.

Diaz was 2-for-2 with two runs scored in the win.

Kean returns to NJAC action on Thursday, April 9th when they travel to Montclair State University.
