Montclair Edges Kean, 6-4
Montclair, N.J. (4/8/09) - The
Kean University men's lacrosse team notched the first two goals,
but couldn't respond to five uncontested Montclair State goals,
falling by the final of 6-4, Wednesday night at Sprague Field.
Kean's Josh Morales (Clifton, N.J.) got things
going with an unassisted goal in the first period. Junior
Anthony Bertucci (Edison, N.J.) then added another
with 14:01 to give KU a 2-0 advantage. MSU battled back with
their first goal a minute later and narrowed the margin to 2-1 at
the break.
The Red Hawks (7-4, 2-0 Skyline) then rolled off two goals in
the third period and two more early in the fourth to jump out to a
5-2 lead. The Cougars (7-5, 0-2 Skyline) then rallied to
within one as freshman Andrew Rau (Fair Lawn,
N.J.) scored an unassisted goal with 10:43 remaining,
followed by C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains, N.J.)
(pictured right) in the final minutes.
MSU sealed the win with 3:10 remaining as they scored their
sixth goal of the night.
Rau finished with a goal, four groundballs, and was 7-of-12 in
faceoff opportunities.
Keeper John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.) tallied
11 saves in the loss.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, April 11th when
they visit Farmingdale State University.
