Field Hockey Posts 3-0 Shutout Over
Susquehanna
UNION, N.J. (9/12/09) - Senior Brittany
Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored two goals and sophomore
Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) added a goal and an
assist to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 3-0
victory over visiting Susquehanna University in non-conference
action on Friday evening.
The Cougars (4-0) scored a pair of insurance goals a player down
in a 64 second span in the second half to open the season with
their fourth straight victory.
For Susquehanna (1-3), goalkeeper Erin Ferguson (Mount
Laurel, N.J.) stopped nine shots.
After a scoreless first half, Gibbs scored the game-winner less
than 10 minutes into the second half. After delivering a pass
to Triano at the top of the circle on a penalty corner, Gibbs
relocated to the left side of the cage, where Triano (pictured
right) delivered the pass for Gibbs to tip-in for the 1-0 lead.
The Crusaders had an opportunity to possibly tie the game with a
two-player advantage midway through the second-half, however Kean
was able to keep the Crusaders off the scoreboard.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the game and playing one
player down, Gibbs scored the insurance goal off the assist from
sophomore Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) with 6:16
remaining. Just over a minute later, Triano fired the open
shot from just inside the circle that went into the cage untouched
for the three-goal advantage.
The Cougars return to action tomorrow evening, when they travel
to Hoboken, N.J., to take on Stevens Institute of Technology in a
non-conference game at 6 p.m.
