Field Hockey Falls to Stevens,
3-0
HOBOKEN, N.J. (9/12/09) - The Kean University
field hockey team dropped its first game of the season, falling to
host Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-0, in non-conference action
on Saturday evening.
Stevens (3-1) scored all three goals in the final 30 minutes of
the game.
The Cougars (4-1) had a chance to take a lead with a penalty
stroke opportunity late in the first half, however junior
goalkeeper Ellyn Griggs (Hillsborough, N.J.) made the save
and preserved the scoreless first half heading into the break.
Sophomore Mallory Swanson (Princeton Junction, N.J.)
broke the tie early in the second half, scoring on a penalty corner
just 5:05 into the second half.
The Ducks added a second goal just over three minutes later and
tacked on the third goal with less than two minutes to go in the
game.
For the Cougars, junior Lauren Dobbs (Palmyra,
N.J.) made five saves in the game.
The Cougars travel to Manhattanville College on Wednesday,
September 16, in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
