Field Hockey Blanks Manhattanville,
4-0
PURCHASE, N.Y. (9/16/09) - The Kean University
field hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season with
a 4-0 shutout of host Manhattanville College on Wednesday
afternoon.
Sophomore Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) had a
goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (5-1), who held a 17-4 edge
in shots over the Valiants (2-4).
Kusik opened the scoring early in the game, when she scored on a
penalty stroke just 5:12 into the contest for the only goal of the
first half.
The Cougars extended the lead early in the second half on
another penalty stroke, this time as junior Kelly Mataya
(Woodland Park, N.J.) converted the opportunity for the
2-0 lead less than four minutes into the second half.
With less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest, the Cougars
tacked on two more insurance goals.
Junior Amie Hoch (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.)
(pictured right) scored off the assist from Kusik with just 7:59
remaining, before sophomore Nicole Torre (Toms River,
N.J.) netted the goal off the pass from classmate
Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) with less than three
minutes remaining.
The Cougars open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday,
September 22, when they travel to Richard Stockton College.
