Field Hockey Opens NJAC Slate with 6-0 Win Over Stockton

Kusik, Gibbs Score Twice in Kean's 6-0 Victory Over Stockton

POMONA, N.J. (9/22/09) - Senior Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) each scored two goals to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Richard Stockton College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.

Gibbs also made a defensive save for the Cougars (6-1, 1-0 NJAC), who limited the Ospreys (1-7, 0-1) to just one shot on the afternoon.

The Cougars opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest when Gibbs netted the game-winner just 57 seconds into the contest.

The score would remain 1-0 for the rest of the first half, before the Cougars exploded for five second-half goals.

Kusik netted back-to-back goals midway through the second half, and the Cougars would scored four goals in a 10-minute span en-route to their fifth shutout of the season.

Junior Kelly Mataya (Woodland Park, N.J.) (pictured right) added a goal and an assist, while sophomore Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) added a goal in the victory.

Osprey goalkeeper Debi O'Kane (Cologne, N.J.) recorded eight saves.

The Cougars travel to Oswego State on Saturday, September 26, for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
