Kusik, Gibbs Score Twice in Kean's
6-0 Victory Over Stockton
POMONA, N.J. (9/22/09) - Senior
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore
Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) each scored two
goals to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 6-0
victory over Richard Stockton College in the New Jersey Athletic
Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.
Gibbs also made a defensive save for the Cougars (6-1, 1-0
NJAC), who limited the Ospreys (1-7, 0-1) to just one shot on the
afternoon.
The Cougars opened the scoring less than a minute into the
contest when Gibbs netted the game-winner just 57 seconds into the
contest.
The score would remain 1-0 for the rest of the first half,
before the Cougars exploded for five second-half goals.
Kusik netted back-to-back goals midway through the second half,
and the Cougars would scored four goals in a 10-minute span
en-route to their fifth shutout of the season.
Junior Kelly Mataya (Woodland Park, N.J.)
(pictured right) added a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) added a goal in the
victory.
Osprey goalkeeper Debi O'Kane (Cologne, N.J.) recorded eight
saves.
The Cougars travel to Oswego State on Saturday, September 26,
for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
