Men's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Tie at
NJCU
Jersey City, N.J. (9/23/09) - The Kean
University men's soccer team used all 110 minutes in today's action
and battled to a 2-2 tie with conference foe New Jersey City
University Wednesday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference
action.
This is the fourth overtime and third double-overtime match already
this season for the Cougars who stand with a 4-3-2 overall record
and 0-1-1 mark in the conference.
The Gothic Knights (5-2-2, 0-1-1 NJAC) got things going early in
the match as Walter Avans scored just under one and a half
minutes into play. Kean tied things right up at 7:33 as
freshman Guilherme Argollo (Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil) (pictured right) hit a short shot to the left from
the box to put the match at 1-1. NJCU went ahead in the
24th minute as Lester Ombwayo gathered a loss
ball in the box putting the score at 2-1. The Cougars scored
what would be the match's last goal as junior Adam Bajek
(Clifton, N.J.) took a pass from Dennis Correia
(Elizabeth, N.J.) with under a minute to go in the first
half for the final of 2-2.
Kean outshot the Gothic Knights, 19-14, while also holding a 6-4
edge in corner opportunities.
Junior keeper Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield,
N.J.) made three stops in goal.
