Esposito Nets Hat Trick in 3-0 Win
Over NJCU
UNION, N.J. (9/23/09) - For the second straight
year, sophomore Danielle Esposito (Holdmel, N.J.)
netted a hat trick against New Jersey City University, as the Kean
University women's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights, 3-0, in
New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.
Just one day shy of being exactly a year apart, Esposito
(pictured right) scored twice in a 4:02 span in the opening half
for the Cougars (3-3-2, 1-1 NJAC). For NJCU (6-4, 0-2 NJAC),
junior goalkeeper Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, N.J.) made 11
saves.
Esposito opened the scoring in the 17th minute,
scoring off the assist from junior Lara Kaminski (Rahway,
N.J.) for the 1-0 lead at 16:35 mark.
Just four minutes later, Esposito found the back of the net
again, this time taking the ball from senior midfielder
Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.) for the two-goal
edge at halftime.
The Gothic Knights had an opportunity to trim the lead in half
with a penalty kick in the 24th minute, however the kick
sailed high and the score remained 2-0.
Early in the second half, sophomore Danielle Martini
(Flemington, N.J.) found Esposito for a breakaway goal and
the hat trick.
Kean held a 22-8 edge in shots, while NJCU had a slight 5-3
advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Leandra Russo (Galloway,
N.J.) made two saves for the Cougars.
Kean travels to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, September 26, for a
NJAC game at 7 p.m.
