Gibbs Nets Game-Winner in 2-1 OT Victory

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (9/29/09) - Senior forward Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored two goals, including the game-winner less than a minute into overtime, as the Kean University field hockey team defeated host SUNY New Paltz, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

Gibbs' 15th goal of the season came just 54 seconds into overtime to lead the Cougars (8-1) to their fourth straight victory.

For New Paltz (4-4), goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong finished with six saves.

The Cougars took the early 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game, when Gibbs scored off a give-and-go with sophomore Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.)  just 58 seconds into the game.

New Paltz tied the game less than five minutes later, as Sarah Schloss netted her seventh goal of the season unassisted.

The score would remain tied at 1-1 for the next 65 minutes before Gibbs' game-winner.

Kean held an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 15-3 edge in penalty corners. Rookie Alexa Barry (Morristown, N.J.) (pictured right) made two saves in the victory.

The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday, October 3, when Kean hosts Ramapo College at 1 p.m.
