Gibbs Nets Game-Winner in 2-1 OT

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (9/29/09) - Senior forward
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored two
goals, including the game-winner less than a minute into overtime,
as the Kean University field hockey team defeated host SUNY New
Paltz, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
Gibbs' 15th goal of the season came just 54 seconds
into overtime to lead the Cougars (8-1) to their fourth straight
victory.
For New Paltz (4-4), goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong finished
with six saves.
The Cougars took the early 1-0 lead less than a minute into the
game, when Gibbs scored off a give-and-go with sophomore
Lauren Kusik (Randolph, N.J.) just 58
seconds into the game.
New Paltz tied the game less than five minutes later, as
Sarah Schloss netted her seventh goal of the season
unassisted.
The score would remain tied at 1-1 for the next 65 minutes
before Gibbs' game-winner.
Kean held an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 15-3 edge in penalty
corners. Rookie Alexa Barry (Morristown,
N.J.) (pictured right) made two saves in the
victory.
The Cougars return to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on
Saturday, October 3, when Kean hosts Ramapo College at 1 p.m.
