Women's Soccer Battles to 0-0 Draw
with MSU
Union, N.J. (9/30/09) - One hundred ten minutes
was not enough as the Kean University women's soccer team tied with
conference foe Montclair State University, 0-0, Wednesday evening
at Kean Alumni Stadium.
The tie is the third this season for KU as their record stands
at 4-3-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference
(NJAC). This is Montclair State's first tie of the season as
their record moves to 5-3-1 and 1-2-1 in conference action.
The Cougars dominated the regulation period with scoring
opportunities, outshooting their opponents, 22-10. Kean's
closest chance came in the 87th minute as Kean was
awarded a free kick following a MSU foul. Freshman
Carly Seidel (Winslow Twp., N.J.) launched the
ball high into the left-hand side of the net, but senior keeper
Leah Tepperman (North Andover, Mass.) tipped the ball
above the net for the save.
The Red Hawks controlled the ball for the first overtime period
with two scoring opportunities, but failed to connect. Things
got physical in the final 10 minutes of action, with three yellow
cards issued. The Cougars staged a last minute attack with
four shots in the final two minutes, but could only settle for the
scoreless tie.
Tepperman finished with 11 saves in the shutout while Kean's
Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.) (pictured right)
tallied six.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Saturday, October 3rd
when they face William Paterson University at 4 p.m. MSU will
head home to take on Rutgers-Camden at 1 p.m.
