Beyruti Paces Kean Past

Senior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) scored 18 of her
season-high 23 points in the first half, as the Kean University
women's basketball team won its 12th straight game with
a 72-53 win over Misericordia University at the Hoops for Hounds
Tournament at Lycoming College on Saturday evening.
The #5/7 Cougars (12-1) also received 12 points, seven rebounds
and five steals from junior forward Tiffany Patrick
(Piscataway, N.J.). Freshman Tyann McDaniel
(Bellefonte, Pa.) and sophomore Jesse Robinson (Barton,
N.Y.) had 12 points apiece for Misericordia (6-4).
Kean used an early 11-0 run to break a tie game and build a 19-8
lead halfway through the opening half and would break the game open
with 17 unanswered points to lead by as many as 28 points en-route
to the 47-23 lead at halftime.
Beyruti knocked down 6-of-8 three-pointers to account for her 18
first-half points, while rookie Naimah Clemons (Newark,
N.J.) dished out eight assists.
Kean maintained a comfortable double-digit lead throughout the
entire second half to remain undefeated against Division III teams
this season.
Beyruti finished with seven three-pointers, while Clemons
(pictured right) had a career-high 10 assists.
Kean faces host Lycoming College on Sunday, January 3, at 3 p.m.
