Mansfield, Conn. (10/10/10) – Eastern
Connecticut's Matt Furman recorded a hat trick as
the Kean men's soccer team fell by the final of 3-1 Sunday
evening.
Furman's first goal came on a deflected shot and was set up
on a pass from senior midfielder Sean Capezzone. That lead
held up for nearly 40 minutes before Kean tied the match two
minutes into the second half on the second goal of the season from
senior Kyle Venerable.
Furman buried a one-timer to give Eastern the lead for good four
minutes later, and Furman added an insurance goal soon after. The
final goal followed a corner kick.
Kean had a number of strong shots sail wide or over the net as
Eastern junior keeper Carl Appel made one save. The
Cougars split time in net as Tyler Callahan and
Alfredo Oquendo each played a half combining for
five saves.
Eastern was playing its second game in as many days and Kean its
fifth in nine days, all away from home.
The Cougars enjoy a few days rest and return right back into
conference play against NJAC foe Montclair State on Wednesday.
