Union, N.J. (10/13/10) – Freshman Dan
Mendoza netted the game-winner off a penalty kick in the
63rd minute as Montclair State University defeated Kean,
2-1, Wednesday evening in NJAC action.
MSU (10-2-2, 5-1 NJAC) quickly scored just under three minutes into
the match as senior Mike Krol lofted a pass to the right
side of the box where senior Chris Tatro fired a missile
for the early 1-0 lead.
Kean (8-6-1, 4-2 NJAC) then tied things up in the ninth minute
as sophomore Tiago Goetzke recorded his ninth goal
of the season on a breakaway that was started by sophomore
Michael Custidiano (pictured right) at the
opposite 20 yard line.
The match would remain tied until the Red Hawks were awarded a
penalty kick after being bumped in the box as Mendoza took
advantage with what would be the game-winner.
MSU held a 15-8 advantage in shots and a slight 6-5 edge in
corner opportunities.
Freshman keeper Tyler Callahan made two saves
for Kean while sophomore Anthony Rogic stopped two shots
for Montclair.
Kean returns to conference action when they host The College of
New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at East Campus while Montclair
State hosts New Jersey City University.
