OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (10/8/10) – For the
seventh time this season, sophomore Tiago
Goetzke netted the game winning goal, as the Kean
University men's soccer team rallied past host SUNY Old Westbury,
2-1, in double overtime in non-conference action on Friday
afternoon.
With less than five minutes remaining in the second overtime,
Goetzke scored the game-winner off the assist from sophomore
Kharee
Winslow to lift the Cougars (8-4-1) to their third
double overtime victory of the season.
After more than 70 scoreless minutes, the Panthers (8-6) took a
1-0 lead in the 72nd minute when Hansel Riddock
scored off the corner kick from German Parodis.
The Cougars would tie the game eight and half minutes later, as
rookie Kevin
Mayaka netted the goal off double –assist from
Danny
Olivo and Goetzke.
Kean, who played down a man for the final 35 minutes, held a
slight 3-2 edge in shots in the first overtime, before Goetzke
scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on the Cougars'
only shot needed in the second extra session.
Rookie Tyler
Callahan (pictured right) made 13 saves in goal for
the Cougars.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday, October 10, when they
travel to Eastern Connecticut State University for a non-conference
game at 6 p.m.
