UNION, N.J. (10/9/10) – Rowan University
sophomore Marisa Schoepflin scored twice, including the
go-ahead goal early in the second half to lead the Profs to a 3-2
lead over Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference field
hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
The 14th ranked Profs (9-4, 3-0 NJAC) took a 2-0 lead
less than six minutes into the game, before the Cougars (7-3, 1-1
NJAC) tied the game up with a pair of goals in the opening three
minutes of the second half.
Junior Olivia Triano had a goal and an assist
for the Cougars.
Tied 2-2, Schoepflin took a pass from junior back Lauren
Conner across the front of the cage and tipped in the
game-winner at 41:18.
Schoepflin gave the Profs the early 1-0 lead when she scored the
unassisted goal from the right side following a scramble in front
of the cage five minutes into the game.
Less than a minute later, senior Nicole Valianti gave
the Profs a 2-0 lead when she tipped in the initial hit from junior
Julie Cairone.
After the half, Kean rookie Makia Sturgis
tipped in the pass from Triano just 16 seconds into the second half
to cut the lead in half. Triano would tie the game up just
2:28 later when she blasted a shot into the back of the cage from
the right side.
Rowan, who defeated #1 Salisbury University (1-0) earlier this
week, held a commanding 22-6 edge in shots and a 14-3 advantage in
penalty corners.
Kean rookie Jessica Zebley (pictured right)
played the final 63 minutes of the game, stopping 12
shots.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, October 12, when they
travel to Susquehanna University for a non-conference game at 7
p.m.
