Men's Hoops Fall to Stockton, 46-39

Men's Hoops Fall Short Against Richard Stockton, 46-39

UNION, N.J. (2/11/10) - Junior forward Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) had game-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds, however the Kean University men's basketball team fell short to Richard Stockton College, 46-39, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening.

Jones (pictured right) recorded his ninth straight double-double for the Cougars (8-14, 5-6 NJAC), while junior guard Michael Farrow (Whitesboro, N.J.) led the Ospreys (16-6, 6-4 NJAC) with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Cougars scored six straight points to built a 19-11 lead with 5:23 remaining in the first half, before Stockton closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 25-21 lead at the break.

Farrow had nine first-half points to lead Stockton, while Jones had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.

The Cougars opened the second half with a dunk by Jones to pull back within two points and the two teams traded baskets on the ensuing possessions before Richard Stockton opened up an eight point lead at 35-27 with 14:25 to go for their largest lead of the game.

Jones trimmed the Stockton lead back to two points at 38-36 with a jumper with 9:07 remaining and back to within three points at 42-39 with just under five minutes left, however that would be the Cougars last basket of the game and a pair of free throws from sophomore DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville, N.J.) with three seconds remaining, sealed the Stockton win.

Senior forward Omar Smith (Newark, N.J.) scored 11 points for Richard Stockton.

For the Cougars, senior guard Vinnie Darpino (Colonia, N.J.) finished with eight points.

Kean returns to action in a key NJAC South Division match-up at The College of New Jersey on Saturday, February 13th.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
