Men's Hoops Fall Short Against
Richard Stockton, 46-39
UNION, N.J. (2/11/10) - Junior forward
Jonathan Jones (Linden, N.J.) had game-highs of 21
points and 12 rebounds, however the Kean University men's
basketball team fell short to Richard Stockton College, 46-39, in
New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening.
Jones (pictured right) recorded his ninth straight double-double
for the Cougars (8-14, 5-6 NJAC), while junior guard Michael
Farrow (Whitesboro, N.J.) led the Ospreys (16-6, 6-4 NJAC)
with 13 points and six rebounds.
The Cougars scored six straight points to built a 19-11 lead
with 5:23 remaining in the first half, before Stockton closed the
half on a 14-2 run to take a 25-21 lead at the break.
Farrow had nine first-half points to lead Stockton, while Jones
had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.
The Cougars opened the second half with a dunk by Jones to pull
back within two points and the two teams traded baskets on the
ensuing possessions before Richard Stockton opened up an eight
point lead at 35-27 with 14:25 to go for their largest lead of the
game.
Jones trimmed the Stockton lead back to two points at 38-36 with
a jumper with 9:07 remaining and back to within three points at
42-39 with just under five minutes left, however that would be the
Cougars last basket of the game and a pair of free throws from
sophomore DiAndre Brown (Sicklerville, N.J.) with three
seconds remaining, sealed the Stockton win.
Senior forward Omar Smith (Newark, N.J.) scored 11
points for Richard Stockton.
For the Cougars, senior guard Vinnie Darpino (Colonia,
N.J.) finished with eight points.
