#2 Kean Cruise Past Richard

Clemons (Newark, N.J.) scored a game-high 21 points to
lead five Cougars in double figures, as Kean defeated Richard
Stockton College in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's
basketball action on Thursday evening.
The #2 Cougars (22-1, 11-0 NJAC), who sported pink uniforms in
support of breast cancer awareness and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer
Fund, won their 22nd straight game, including
15th game of the year by at least 20 points.
For the Ospreys (11-11, 5-5 NJAC), freshman Noelle Hogan
(Mullica Hill, N.J.) came off the bench to score a team-high
10 points. The last time the two teams met in January, the
Cougars won by only 12 points (63-51) for their closest NJAC game
of the season.
Leading 11-10 less than eight minutes into the game, the Cougars
opened up a double-digit lead with a 14-2 run to take a 25-12 lead
with 7:32 remaining in the half. Kean built its largest lead
at the break, as the Cougars closed the half with a 7-1 run to lead
by 19 (42-23) at the break.
Clemons (pictured right) scored 15 of her points in the first
half, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor and making two steals.
Seniors Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) and
Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) scored eight
and seven points, respectively, for the Cougars. Stockton was
led by sophomore guard Aliyah Nelson (Pleasantville, N.J.)
and sophomore forward Sula Washington (Montgomery Village,
N.J.), who each had five first-half points.
The Cougars extended the lead to 21 points with a lay-up by Clemons
to open the second half, as Kean would lead by as many as 37 points
in the final minute before winning their fifth straight game by at
least 30 points.
Jackman finished with 12 points and a game-high four assists,
while Beyruti and sophomore guard Brittany Powell (Tinton
Falls, N.J.) (pictured left) each added 11 points.
Beyruti had one three-pointer, giving her 386 career three-pointers
and moving her into third place all-time on the NCAA All-Divisions
list.
Junior forward Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway,
N.J.) rounded out the Cougars in double-figures, finishing
with 10 points, three blocks and three steals.
Hogan had eight rebounds, including five offensive boards, and
three blocks, while Nelson finished with nine points. Junior
forward Julia Fagan (New Britain, Conn.) had a game-high
10 rebounds for the Ospreys.
Kean battles host The College of New Jersey on Saturday,
February 13th, in Ewing, N.J. Tip-off is set for 1
p.m.
