Gannon Leads Kean Past Mount Ida,
14-2
UNION, N.J. (3/13/10) – Senior
C.J. Gannon (Morris Plains, N.J.) scored six goals
to lead the Kean University men's lacrosse team to a 14-2 win
over Mount Ida College in wet and windy conditions on Saturday
afternoon.
The Cougars (3-2) held a 33-12 advantage in shots and a 24-12
edge in groundballs over Mount Ida (1-2).
For Mount Ida, sophomore goalkeeper James McAllister (Bethany,
Conn.) finished with five saves.
After the Mustangs scored the first goal of the game, Kean
answered with nine straight goals spanning the first, second and
third quarters to build a 9-1 lead. Gannon scored three in
that run and would later add three straight goals in the fourth
quarter as the Cougars pulled away for the victory.
Seniors Jazimar Bailey (Hoboken, N.J.)
(pictured right) and Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn,
N.J.) each had two goals and two assists for the
Cougars. In goal, senior John Gesumaria (Cranford,
N.J.) had made three saves.
For the Mustangs, freshman Nick Yacuzzi (Oakham, Mass.)
and senior attack Brandon Keith (Barnstable, Mass.) each
scored once.
Kean hosts #5 and defending national champion SUNY Cortland on
Wednesday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m.
