Kean Rallies Past Anderson;
Falls to IWU
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/14/10)
– The Kean University softball team rallied to score two runs
in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Anderson University,
2-1, and earn a split in action at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday
afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Cougars fell to Illinois
Wesleyan University, 3-1.
Trailing 1-0 against Anderson, senior Allison Thibault
(Garfield, N.J.) led off the bottom of the sixth with a
pinch hit single and would eventually advance to third when
freshman Katie Schuh (Mount Holly, N.J.) and
junior Lindsay Kennedy (Parsippany, N.J.) each
reached on an error on the sacrifice bunt attempts.
Two batters later, senior centerfielder Allison Lizzi
(Cherry Hill, N.J.) ripped a one-out single to drive in
Thibault and Schuh (pictured right) with the tying and go-ahead
runs.
In the bottom half of the inning, senior right-hander
Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, N.J.) forced Anderson
into a game-ending fly-out to right field with runners on first and
second base.
Anderson took a 1-0 lead with a pair of singles in the first
inning.
Shotwell picked up her first win of the season, as she allowed
just three hits and struck-out nine batters.
Earlier in the day, Illinois Wesleyan scored twice in the fourth
and once in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead, before holding on for the
two-run win in the first game of the season for IWU.
The Cougars resume action on Tuesday, March 16, when they take
on Framingham State College (9 a.m.) and McDaniel College (11
a.m.).
