#10 Kean Edges #22 Keystone, 7-6

La Plume, Pa. (3/21/10) – Junior Ken Gregory (Pittstown, N.J.) recorded five RBI including a grand slam as #10 Kean University defeated #22 Keystone College, 7-6, Sunday afternoon in the Cougars first official road game of the season.

Kean improves to 9-4 with a key regional win over Keystone, who falls to 7-4.

The Cougars jumped on board early as Gregory belted a grand slam in his first at-bat, scoring Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.), who reached on a leadoff single, Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.) who was hit by a pitch, and Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.), who reached on an error.

Keystone responded with two runs in their half of the third, including a solo shot and an RBI double.

KU added single runs in the fourth and fifth as Steve Nappe (Edison, N.J.) scored on a double steal and Gregory (pictured right) knocked in his fifth of the day, an RBI single.

The Giants tied the ballgame in the sixth inning with three runs on three hits and a Cougar miscue.

The Cougars plated what would be the winning run with a sacrifice fly from junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) (pictured left) in the top of the seventh and key pitching held down the line for the win.

Senior Steve Montalbano (North Brunswick, N.J.) recorded the win in relief.  Montalbano (2-1) allowed two runs, one earned, as well as three hits in four innings of work.  He struck out seven and combined with starting pitcher Julian Diaz (North Bergen, N.J.) fanned 15 Keystone batters on the afternoon.

Kean will face FDU-Florham on Tuesday, March 23rd at 3:30 p.m. at Jim Hynes Stadium.
