Cesare, Cougars Cruise Past
FDU-Florham, 11-2
Union, N.J. (3/23/10) – Senior southpaw Nick
Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.) went the distance as Kean
used the longball to defeat FDU College at Florham, 11-2, Tuesday
afternoon in a misty Jim Hynes Stadium.
Cesare (3-0) (pictured right) allowed just four singles while
striking out seven and walking two to help the #6/7 Cougars improve
to 10-4. Sophomore Matt Mizerek (Matawan, N.J.)
suffered the loss for FDU-Florham. He fell to 2-2 as he
allowed six runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Cougars opened the scoring in their half of the third as
freshman Steve Nappe (Edison, N.J.) led off the
inning with a double. After a successful sacrifice by catcher
Eddie Jennings (Jackson, N.J.) moved him to third,
sophomore Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J.) grounded
out to record the game's first run. After back-to-back
singles by Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) and
Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.), senior
Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) launched his third
homerun of the season to put Kean ahead 4-0.
Trailing 5-0, the Devils (8-3) got on the board with two runs in
the fifth. With two outs, FDU-Florham recorded back-to-back
singles and moved the runners to second and third with a double
steal. Senior Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, N.J.) drove
them home with a two RBI single to right-center.
That would be the only runs that Cesare would give up, allowing
just one walk the rest of the way.
Offensively sophomore Lee Cavico (North Brunswick,
N.J.) (pictured left) was 2-for-3 with a homerun and two
runs scored while junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.)
was 1-for-4 with a two run shot. Freshman Sean
Kelly (North Bergen, N.J.) came up with a two RBI
pinch-hit single, while Jennings was 2-for-2 with a walk and
sacrifice.
