Ninth Inning Sends Kean Past
Franklin & Marshall, 9-8

Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.) lined a single in the bottom of
the ninth to give Kean University their first win of the young
season as KU defeated Franklin & Marshall College, 9-8, Friday
afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
Trailing 8-7 heading into the bottom of the ninth, sophomore
Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) got aboard with a
single. Sophomore Lee Cavico (North Brunswick,
N.J.) then reached with a walk to put runners on first and
second with no outs. Sophomore Vinny Galya (Old
Bridge, N.J.) then bunted the ball down the third base
line, but the speedy Laguna beat the throw at third to load the
bases. Kean tied the game with a wild pitch, putting runners
at second and third. Zavistoski (pictured right) then brought
home the game-winning run with a single to left to end the game.
The Diplomats (0-1) took their first leadoff the game in the top
of the ninth rallying for three runs on longballs to then take a
8-7 lead. J.T. Triantos (Vineland, N.J.) got things
started with a solo shot down the rightfield line. Two
batters later, Nick Rolnick (Scarsdale, N.Y.) hit a
two-run blast over the leftfield wall for their first advantage of
the contest.
Kean (1-1) sprinted out of the gate with four runs in the bottom of
the first inning. With two outs, senior Mike Moceri
(Yardville, N.J.) had an infield single. Junior
Ken Gregory (Pittstown, N.J.) then launched a two
run shot to dead centerfield for a 2-0 advantage. Laguna
(pictured left) followed with a double to right-center
followed by a Cavico RBI single. The Cougars rounded out the
scoring as junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) hit an
RBI triple.
Freshman Kevin Herget (Park Ridge, N.J.) earned
the win in relief. Herget tossed two thirds of an inning
allowing one earned run and one hit. Senior Nick
Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.) started the game and went
six and two thirds innings allowing five runs, two earned, and ten
hits. He also fanned six.
Gregory was 1-for-3 with three RBI while Laguna was 3-for-4 with
two runs scored. Catcher Eddie Jennings (Jackson,
N.J.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, March 6th as they
face Albright College at 1 p.m.
