Cougars Cruise Past Albright, 13-5

Union, N.J. (3/6/10) - Senior Stephen Montalbano (North Brunswick, N.J.) tossed seven innings, fanning 10 as the #3/6 Kean University baseball team defeated Albright College, 13-5, Saturday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Montalbano (1-0) (pictured right) allowed just one unearned run on four hits.  He did not walk a batter.  The Cougars improve to 2-1 in the midst of their seven game homestand.

Kean jumped on the board quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Outfielder Ryan Gibbons (Glen Rock, N.J.) led things off with a double down the line and advanced to third on a groundout.  Senior Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) drove him home with an RBI single to left-center.  Later in the inning, sophomore Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) scored on a passed ball after reaching by a hit batsman.  The Cougars rounded out the scoring in the first with an RBI single from freshman Stephen Nappe (Edison, N.J.) .

The Lions (0-2) tacked on a single run in their half of the third off a passed ball.  With the score at 3-1, Kean exploded for seven runs in the fourth as the Cougars sent 13 hitters to the plate.  Highlighting the inning was a two RBI single from Gibbons as well as a two RBI single by Moceri.  Trailing 13-1, the Lions added four late runs in the top of the ninth.

Moceri (pictured left) was 3-for-4 with four RBI, including his first homerun of the year. Nappe finished the afternoon with a 3-for-4, four RBI performance as well while Gibbons was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Laguna was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and junior Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

For the Lions, Jon Raymond (Pottstown, Pa.) was 1-for-1 with a two RBI double.

Kean returns to action on Sunday when they face The College at Brockport at 1 p.m.
